Droplets

If you hate fun you should absolutely NOT go see a Bay Area Derby Girls event. You'd be miserable. Mind numbingly miserable. The fun? It just might kill you.

Since I am not a hater of fun, I spent my Saturday night watching the Oakland Outlaws battle the Richmond Wrecking Belles . Having never been to a roller derby event, I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm happy to report that it was every bit as awesome as I had hoped it would be.

There's girls, they wear old school roller skates, and they race around a track. They have names like "Pandamonium" (who had face make-up with panda eyes), "Lemmy Choke'Ya", "Racey Lane", and "Demanda Riot". As you might imagine, they are all pretty bad ass. If you're unfamiliar with the sport (as I was), they do a demo in the beginning to let you know what's going on, and then those girls get out there and SKATE. They do push and shove a little, but that helps make things interesting. Also, there's music, amusing commentary, and beer. Can you think of a better way to spend a Saturday night? I DIDN'T THINK SO.

I've already marked the next Derby Girl event on my calendar. In fact. I'm a little bit disappointed that I'll have to wait until next month. I'm ready to go NEXT WEEKEND.
