It's no secret that I love my Anrdoid phone. However, every once in a while, some super cool app comes out for the iPhone that makes me wish I had one. Hipstamatic, anyone?
At some point, it finally occurred to me to actually search the Android marketplace and see if maybe someone felt the same way and came out with a cool camera app for Android. It's been a couple of years since I've done that and I've come across, not just one but THREE camera apps!
Here's the break down:
FxCamera:
Pretty simple user interface and a range of options including: ToyCam, Polandroid, Fisheye, Symmetricam, and a Warhol option. Not a ton of options, but it's free, so I can't complain.
Retro Camera:
Another simple user interface for taking photos with "retro" cameras including the Barbl, Little Orange Box, Xolaroid (something like a polaroid), and a pinhole camera. Besides black and white options, there isn't a ton of customization. My real issue with this app is that the viewfinder for the app is really small (it tried to simulate looking through the viewfinder of the actual camera). Other than that it's kind of fun. It's free, but there is a paid version (from what I can tell, it just gets rid of the ads).
And last but not least (and definitely my favorite) - Vignette:
I think this is probably the closest to hipstamatic that I've found. There's a HUGE range of options (toy camera, vintage, color highlight, tinted monochrome, lens effects, etc.) and different frame effects. I believe there's a demo version, but I think it's completely worth the $3.99 I paid for it. It's my go to app to take photos with my phone:
And if that's not enough, I came across two more apps while searching for the links for the apps listed above: picplz and Camera 360. I haven't tried either one, but they're both free so they might be worth a download...
So how's that for fun camera options? Hipsta-who? Who needs it? Not me!
Now if they'd just come out with an Android version of Younicorn, I could totally forget that the iPhone exists.
