April 11, 2006 | Choppy

Have you ever noticed that once you've scheduled a desperately needed haircut, the unruly hair all of a sudden becomes perfectly behaved? The day or two before, my locks with frizzy tendencies will be smooth and the ends will flip in the exact right direction. Like it knows scissors will be taken to it soon, so maybe if it behaves they way I've wanted it to for the past 8 weeks, it can prolong the impending chop.

I've got a trip to the salon scheduled for today, and for the first time ever, my hair has adopted a "f*ck it" attitude. There's a chunk of it sticking out at a 45 degree angle exactly where it's not supposed to. And despite using a 'smoothing' shampoo and conditioner, we definitely have some frizz. Needless to say, I'm having absolutely no second thoughts about a haircut. I'm going to walk into that salon and tell my stylist to chop at will.

If my hair is going to cop a 'tude, so am I.

Mine always looks great the day I go in for a haircut - the days and sometimes weeks leading up to it are a constant battle with frizz and unruliness, but the day of the appointment? Never fails, everything falls into place perfectly.

My hair always looks fabulous right before I get a haircut. It never fails.
Your hair looks adorable, by the way.

So the chopping has been done. And now my hair is in payback mode. It looked awfully nice afterwards. Today it's doing this extreme flippy thing at the ends. I now have cartoon hair.

I hate hooligan hair. I say chop it all of! MORE MORE MORE! (I got mine cut too!)

I've totally noticed that before! It's always on the day that I'm determined to just take the plunge and shave it all off that it's suddenly perfectly manageable. Even my stubborn bangs will bend to my every whim.

What's with that?

My hair does a similar thing: it behaves perfectly from the time I make the appointment until the day before I have it. Which of course makes me doubt the necessity of the (crazy expensive) appointment. But then, then!, the day OF the appointment it will look so incredibly horrible that I am humiliated when I show up for the appointment and feel even worse for allowing my hair to get just that bad in the first place.

heh. My hair always has an attitude. Frizzy and huge, it's usually mistaken as a 'fro. I've pretty much given up on the haircuts by now ;-)
I'm not sure, but I think this is the first time commenting on your site.... even though I've been reading it for a while. Just wanted to let you know how much i like it :-) Love the photography.
