Pineapple Upside Down Birthday Cake

Saturday morning in the waiting room at Quality Tune-Up:

"That black nail polish sure is over the top!"
"Uh..."
"You have nothing on your fingernails, but those toes! I'd hate to see your tattoos!"
"Actually, I don't have any."
"Oh. That's too bad. Your mother probably would have killed you if you had some."

(And yes, that was in reference to MY toe nails.)
The above conversation was a rather odd highlight to my weekend (well, at least it made for a good story). But then on Sunday I got all sorts of kudos for the homemade oreos I brought to my favorite cousin's BBQ, and that kind of made my Sunday.

BUT THEN...we left the BBQ to meet Seth, Casey, and Casey's relatives for dinner. I wasn't all that enthusiastic about this. While I do like Casey's relatives, I had been looking forward to a belated birthday celebration with just Seth and Casey.

When we left my cousin's house, Cyrus was driving fast, like "your water just broke" fast, to get to the Tied house. I didn't understand why it was so important we get there so quickly, but I didn't ask any questions. We parked the car, and I slowly trudged towards the restaurant. As we were opening the door to go in, I thought I noticed Miss Amie's fiancee sitting at one of the tables, and I thought, "Wow, that would be cool if Kevin happened to be here!". It turned out more than just Kevin was there. When I walked through the doors of the Tied house, I was greeted by a loud chorus of, "SURPRISE!"

I was COMPLETELY surprised. In fact, I was so happily stunned that I nearly started crying. They had started planning this little gathering about 8 days earlier and managed to keep it a complete secret. My friends are beyond awesome, and even though it was belated, it was the best little birthday get together I could have asked for. It pretty much trumped everything else for "best thing that happened over Memorial day weekend".

Actually, bowling and tennis on the Littlest Brother's Wii last night was pretty awesome too. I might have to get me one of those Wii things. Maybe for my birthday next year?
