September 11, 2008 | I'm Moving Somewhere Cold Next Summer

HBW!

Remember how hot it was last week? That was not a good week. The heat took so much out of me last Saturday* that I was more tired than I ever remember being ever before. Seriously. When I sort of half woke up on Sunday and the boyfriend wanted to go for a walk, it took me half an hour to put clothes on, and by the time I was ready to go he had decided to go in to the office for a while, and my reaction to this news was to start crying. Not because I was mad, not because I really wanted to go for a walk, but because I was so FREAKING TIRED. So he went in to the office, and I went back to sleep. Later we headed to Santa Cruz where is was foggy and cool and that made me very happy.

So yeah, I've been meaning to tell you that all week. And I had it all written out in my head in a much more creative way, but it's been a busy week, and this is all I can come up with at the moment. Also, when I was relating this same story to my friends at Pub Quiz on Monday night, my friend Dave said I had to blog it, so there you go.

Oh! And if you like tofu (heck, even if you don't), you need to make this Smoky Miso Tofu. It's surprisingly delicious and not that hard to make (the hardest part is waiting for it to marinate and then cook - especially if you're hungry). On Tuesday, I used it in a cilantro noddle bowl (thank you doggedknits), and tonight I made more for sandwiches. I'm already looking forward to the leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

* Twelve mile bike ride, walked to get a bagel, walked around the art and wine festival, and played bocce ball all before noon - no wonder I was tired!

Comments

I will not do anything more than sitting and drinking when it is hot out for that reason.

"Heat? What heat?" says the girl with air con.

That first paragraph? Could have been me. The heat, and the humidity that seems to have settled in for good here in SoCal, is destroying me. This year seems especially bad.

Said it before, saying it again: I'll know I'm successful when I find a way to spend August in the southern hemisphere.

I guess I've always known at some level what the heat takes out of me, but it has never been so apparent as this year. I feel better this evening than I have in weeks, and that's including two Vandy wins. Fog is proof that God loves us.
