Sunday found me sitting and knitting in front of the television. I'd started a new project and the tv, specifically the food network, made for good background noise. Mostly because I don't need to pay full attention to know what's going on. After about 3 hours though, I needed something new. A quick surf of available channels, and I found two movies: Maid in Manhattan, and Grease. I've seen them both. I liked them both. But there was no question. Despite the fact that I've seen it more times than I can count, Grease won.
The thing about Grease, is that it falls into my own little category of movies: "Movies that I will watch whenever they are on tv, regardless of how many times I've seen them or whatever else is on". Other movies in this category are: Trading Places, Beetlejuice, and Clueless. I'm sure I could think of more, but you get the idea. Movies that aren't cinematic works of genius, but they're just kind of fun. I know, I could just buy them on dvd and watch them whenever I want, but that wouldn't be any fun now, would it?
What's on your list of "I will always watch" movies?

Grease, totally! ...also Mystic Pizza, The Princess Bride, The Big Lebowski, Flashdance, Footloose, Heathers, High Fidelity, Ferris Bueller...and any episode of Buffy, no matter how many times I've seen it!!
Sleepless in Seattle, Mystic Pizza, Breakfast Club...all those 80's flicks I grew up with!
Kathie
Raiders of the Lost Ark; Steel Magnolias (I'm ashamed to say that..), La Femme Nikita, and while not movies, Star Trek: The Next Generation. I generally will not seek it out, but if I come across it I'll watch.
Back to the Future. Sleepers. Ferris Bueller. Blues Bros. --- Movies on TV are special in someway... they're passing you by and you can't keep them for later. ALL WE HAVE IS NOW.
Sleepless in Seattle. I have it memorized.
The Mummy. Seen it like 957 times by now.
You've Got Mail, When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, Pretty in Pink, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, It's a Wonderful Life, Casablanca, The Big Sleep... oh, so many!
Gah! I can't believe I forgot When Harry Met Sally. That falls into the I own it, but watch it on tv anyways category. French Kiss falls into that category too.
Thanks for playing along, everyone. :)
Grease, When Harry Met Sally, Office Space.
Definitely Before Sunrise. And Edward Scissorhands. And Dying Young for the obligatory cheesy romance starring Julia Roberts.
Oh man... Dazed and Confused, Empire Records, Charlie's Angels, One Fine Day (the guiltiest of all guilty pleasures!), Clueless, etc. You know, the usuals!
you've got mail, always.
love actually is climbing up there and serendipity, too. i gotta agree with clueless -- an absolute classic!
i love romantic comedies.
I must agree with Patrica - Mystic Pizza always wins. Toy Story on the Disney Channel isn't that bad, as is Top Gun.
Shawshank Redemption, The Wedding Singer, When Harry Met Sally, High Fidelity... I'll probably do the same with Napoleon Dynamite and Garden State when they're out on basic cable, too.
Fight Club...actually that's in the DVD collection. Haven't seen it on TV yet.
The latest movie that must be watched when it's on HBO is Napoleon Dynamite. "...always and forever..."
that thing you do, the shawshank redemption, the birdcage, kate and leopold, etc.
i also watch movies i already own when they're on tv. i don't understand why either. it just feels different. like hearing songs on the radio from albums i own.
hm.. on my list of always watch if its on is ..
- coming to america
- empire records
- and anything that is on hbo all week long, this week or month is garden state so ive seen alot of that
i could list them for days
I'm a sucker for the romantic comedies ... the ones with Meg Ryan and Sandra Bullock top the list. I caught Mystic Pizza a few days ago and it reminded me of how much I love that movie. Every time a commercial aired I asked myself why I hadn't bothered to buy it on DVD. The crazy thing is, sometimes even if I own the movie, I'll still watch it on basic cable with the commercial interruptions. That's just weird I think.
