At 8:30am this morning, I was standing in my bathroom, freshly showered, and sweating. So, so, SO WRONG in so many ways. It's not that it's really been unbearably hot lately. I live in a part of California that has pretty moderate, almost seasonless weather. But it has been on the warm side these past couple of weeks. Warm enough that I actually look forward to my day at work because of a tiny miracle called "air conditioning".
The problem is that when I get home, no amount of open windows and electric fans seems to be able to cool down my apartment. The other part of the problem is that I just kind of freak out when the temperature rises above 85 degrees. Well, not so much me, but my skin totally loses it. And once it's decided that it's not happy, it kind of stays that way. Even right now, while I'm the comfort of an airconditioned building, my eyelids are itchy. Thanks eczema!
At least our new apartment building has a pool. I don't even have to swim in it, just standing in the water seems to make a world of difference. Now, if only I could move the pool into the apartment...

LOL... I swear I always say "I'm melting" as I'm getting out of the nice a/c car into the super hot hell hole of San Diego.
I left a babyshower an hour ago and my car said it was 108 degrees (in San Mateo!). I'm back in Mountain View now where it's slightly less uncomfortable at 104. I fear I might be melting.
I hear ya! This hot weather makes me dream of owning two homes so I could enjoy winter two times a year. Today's temp reached 110+ degrees in my neck of the woods in Southern California and the house, even with the crappy a/c, was at a stand still at 90 degrees. Thankfully the parents don't live too far away and have a pool. I can't wait to just jump in!
Have you thought of one of those kiddie paddling pools? It's been so hot here that I've considered clearing a space for one in the living room.
I hear you. Last year I moved from hot and dry Los Angeles to hot and horribly humid Japan and immediately broke out into a rash that lasted until October. And now...it's back.
To help with your no-AC problem: Lifehacker posted something about making your own AC using only a fan and ice water. Neat!
there's a whole separate blog somewhere for what happens when you lick dry ice.
I don't know if you've tried this before -- buy some dry ice (I get it from an ice cream store...just local google for it) and park the cooler in front of a fan. Ahhh...
Just don't lick it to see what happens.
yes, it's been way too hot lately. i too have a/c at work, (albeit barely functioning,) so the day isn't too bad. but when i get home, it's a furnace. it was still too hot at 10:00 last night. blech. and a pool? a pool would be niiiiiiiiiice.
Hehe, imagine that, a pool inside the apartment! How cool would that be?
We didn't have AC in out previous place and went mad during summers. I'm more of a wintry person and HATE being sweaty. Thank goodness for the AC in our new place. Though evry time I cook, it seems to heat up the living room even faster than the AC can cool it. So not happy with that!
PS: I LOVE your blog! I'm linking you to my site. Hope you drop by sometime and say hullo! :o)
