This Bud's For You

I've been tagged by miss Pugly Feet with the following meme:

1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open it to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence/ phrase.
4. Blog the next four sentences/ phrases together with these instructions.
5. Don’t you dare dig your shelves for that very special or intellectual book.
6. Pass it forward to six friends.

I'm at work, so I don't have a wide library of books to chose from, but this is what I got:

"Actually, I didn't consider it rivalry; I didn't have any rivals. I was in competition only with myself, to have the best ship we possibly could. Inevitably, however, other commanders chafed when Benfold kept topping them, and whether I wanted it or not, rivalries emerged. To be honest, I enjoyed winning and I wasn't sensitive enough to avoid gloating, but I will return to discuss that further."

And there you have it.

I don't like doing the tagging thing, so I invite anyone to just go ahead and pull a book off their shelf and give it a go! I'm sure yours will be infinitely more interesting than mine.

"Anyway, I couldn't help anyone who was afraid of me." He started humming softly to himself, a song that Tayo could hear only faintly, but that reminded him of butterflies darting from flower to flower. "They sent me to this place after the war. It was white. Everything in that place was white." From Ceremony by Leslie Marmon Silko. :)

page 123 of anthony bourdain's 'the nasty bits' reads "SOUR".

And that's it :).

If only I had been at home, I would have had sooo many more options!

This excerpt is from "It's Your Ship" by Captain D. Michael Abrashoff, former commander, USS Benfold. The subtitle is "Management Techniques from the Best Damn Ship in the Navy". I'm not a manager, but my boss had extra copies of the book, so she gave us all one. It's been sitting on my desk for months. :)

I was lucky enough to check Seven's email from my bedroom where I have a stack of fun books close at hand. If I had been at work, it definitely would've been an excerpt from Skoudis' Counter Hack Reloaded -- loads of fun, eh? I like your share -- which book is it from?

Sorry...page 123 of O'Reilly's "Running Mac OS X Tiger" only has four sentences, assuming you count the pre-colon nominative clause as the front end of a sentence rather than one in its own right. but of you keep going, you get "After enabling a user's Parental Controls for Safari, you cannot browse to pages that are not on the user's Bookmarks bar, as shown in Figure 6-4. Attempting to modify the Bookmarks Bar will prompt you for an administrator's password, allowing for finite control of the user's browsing experience."

=)

I doubt you want me quoting from my "Network Warrior" O'Reilly book about computer networking...

I don't know the book this is from but I just want to tell you the photo is really beautiful. Kind of magic.
